Birth Doulas are the latest addition to the maternity care team, assisting families to have both a safe and memorable birth. They provide physical comfort, emotional support, and information to families before, during and just after childbirth. The birth doula brings back a kind of care that’s been missing in modern childbirth.

This workshop focuses on the psychological, social and emotional aspects of childbirth, the Doula’s contribution to a positive birth experience, and providing labor support in a variety of circumstances. This course completes one step toward certification by DONA International.
Below are some of the topics we will be covering.

  • Long-term Impact of childbirth
  • Influence on Women’s Childbearing
  • The Doula’s Role and Presence
  • Physiologic Pain Management
  • Labor Progress Enhancement
  • Emotional Support of the Mother & Partner
  • Support and Advocacy for Difficult Births
  • Prenatal and Postnatal Client Contact
  • Professional Issues & Scope of Practice
  • Getting Started-Marketing Your Practice

I live in Post Falls and am signed up for this course. Anyone else from the Spokane area planning to attend?

Kirsten :)

Kristen,
Thanks for letting us know you’ll be attending the doula training. How exciting! I will be posting another announcement about this training and hopefully we’ll hear from others in our area who will be attending too. Have you joined the Bloom group on Facebook? http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=95650456851

We currently have 79 members in the group and it would be a great place to ask about others going to the training.

Thanks! I just joined the Facebook group.

I’m from north of Spokane and will be at the workshop, I’m really looking forward do it!

I was wondering if you have any future classes planned? I just found out about this one and don’t have enough notice to take time off work but would be very interested in any upcoming classes. Thank you.

Hi, my name is Lacy, I helped advertise and organize the doula training in Pullman. The best place to find doula trainings in your area is to go to the dona website. Once you’re at their homepage, there is a right hand column with a link “Learn How to Become a Doula”. Click on the link, then there is another right hand column link “Find a Doula Workshop”. Once you are there, you can pick what kind of doula training (birth or post-partum) and what area (state or city) there are doula trainings. Hope this helps.

Hello, I would really like to take the Doula training class as well. I have had a hard time finding any around our area. I would like to have another class set up in this area, as there are none available. Thank you!

I’m agreeing with Melanie’s comment above… please have more DONA workshops in the Spokane area! I live in Idaho and Seattle is just so far away. :-( It would be great if a postpartum workshop were held in this area, too.

Hi Sarah. Thanks for your comment. As luck would have it, Melanie is currently planning to bring a DONA Birth Doula Training to Spokane. Please see this new blog post and sign up!
