Childbirth provides us with an opportunity for learning about ourselves and our ability to deal with life’s challenges. Were you amazed by the strength you possessed during birth? Did you feel scared or out of control when things went wrong? No matter how events unfolded, it is important to recognize the powerful feelings brought about by birth and learn to integrate them in your life.
Birth Talk is a group of friendly and supportive women who get together once a month to share their childbirth experiences with each other. Some mothers tell inspirational stories of beautiful, natural births while others tell of the heartbreak their birth experiences have caused. Sharing your birth story is a great way to reflect on the experience in an effort to understand and process how you feel about yourself as a person and a mother. Many women are deeply saddened and harbor guilt or resentment about the way their birth played out—even with a happy, healthy baby in their arms. Talking to other mothers and childbirth professionals can help women learn how to heal emotionally after a traumatic experience.
Birth Talk is led by home-birth midwife Cathy Weston and is intended only for women who have given birth. If you have questions, please call Cathy at (208) 773-9420.
