Prenatal Program

Birth and parenting are a normal expression of our humanity. The majority of women can birth without intervention through empowerment, education and connection to their own knowingness. This program offers a therapeutic style of yoga where women are encouraged to become more conscious of themselves and their babies, to take time to nurture their pregnancy through movement, education, nutrition and relaxation.

Offered classes:

  • Prenatal Yoga
  • Yoga for Labor with partner
  • Lets talk about labor
  • I Can Birth-birth preparation
  • Sacred Stories

Prenatal Yoga

Inside you is an innate wisdom that intuitively understands the very natural process of birth. You will reconnect with this wisdom as you are guided through a class specifically designed for the journey of pregnancy. Linking yoga postures with the breath will lead you to new discoveries, bringing awareness to the mind, body, spirit, and also the spirit of your baby. The class, conducted in a clam, peaceful environment will help strengthen your uterus and pelvic muscles, improve circulation, aid in digestion, exercise the spine and increase overall comfort. Yoga can also alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, constipation, varicose veins, swelling, back pain and sciatica. A safe, open community allows you to freely discuss any issues, from discomforts and concerns, to the wonderful new changes your body and baby are experiencing.

Yoga For Labor With Partner

What will labor be like? How will I cope with the pain? How can my partner help me in labor? What role does my mind/body connection play in labor? How can I deepen my understanding of what I am capable of as a woman in labor?

This workshop will help to answer your questions and bring awareness and confidence to birthing. You will learn how movement along with breath can strengthen, open and relax you. Your partners will learn ways they can mentally, emotionally and physically support you and what role their support truly plays in your birth process. Come and enjoy quality time with your partner while you deepen your consciousness of what birth can be.

*partners take on all forms…husbands, boyfriends, mothers, sisters, friends…all are welcome.

Postnatal Program

Nurture the bond of love between you, your baby and your family. Discover your inner wisdom as a mother.  Strengthen your body and your mind.  Learn to know and love your true self as a woman. Awaken to the depth all women share as they become strong foundations for their families and their communities.

Offered Classes:

  • Postnatal yoga with infant
  • Mom and tot yoga
  • Family yoga

Postnatal yoga with infant

This class helps women regain strength and energy that may have been lost during pregnancy and birth. Gentle yoga poses are taught to help you strengthen, energize, and tone your whole body while deepening your sense of well-being. Postnatal yoga specifically  focuses on rebuilding strength in the abdomen, back and pelvic muscles; releasing tension in the shoulders and neck, opening the chest. We also address common issues and concerns that may arise in this new chapter of life. Moms are encouraged to bring their babies.

Pre-registration is required for all classes and workshop. For class schedules and registration please contact Anam Cara Yoga Center.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

“Cara brought an enthusiastic desire to learn about women’s health, pregnancy and postpartum when I met her over 11 years ago in my prenatal yoga teacher training. She was only 25 years old, yet her thoughtfulness, compassion and seeking nature with this very mature area of study veiled her
young years.
Over a decade now, I have witnessed Cara’s growth into a first rate teacher, a extraordinary woman and a committed and loving wife and friend. Cara teaches with her heart and truly serves the women and families she comes into contact with because she lives her “talk”. If she were in Seattle I would scoop her up in a heart beat to teach with me.”

“I signed up for pre-natal yoga hoping to find new stretches to comfort my changing body. What I found during the five months I took class was a sense of empowerment as a mother, a community of support and bond with my infant beyond what I could have imagined. Cara creates a supportive, non-judgmental space for a woman to connect with her spirit, her body, and her power as a mother. It changed my thoughts about the birth process, opened up new options, and connected me with circle of supportive friends and resources.”
“My daughter and I have enjoyed the past year in post-natal yoga as much as our pre-natal experience. It is a time set aside once a week for me to focus on reclaiming my body while I bond with my child and other mothers. It is the highlight of our week. If someone asked me for one piece of advice as an expectant mother, it would be to sign up for Cara’s class immediately and stay as long as possible.”

“I always knew I wanted a drug free birth; however, I had a very “commercial” idea of pregnancy and labor and my thoughts didn’t go past pain medication. That all changed in my 14th week of pregnancy when I met Cara Wright at pre-natal yoga. She taught me to not only honor my pregnancy, but to become aware of the type of birth experience I wished to have. I can honestly say without Cara’s guidance I’m not sure I would have known how to adjust to my body’s changing shapes or the idea that I could birth my baby. Thanks to the path Cara showed me our daughter joined us by way of a natural hospital childbirth with minimal medical intervention.
Cara has become a dear friend and although she was not in the birth space acting as my Doula, I believe she filled that role during my pregnancy and since after. Her caring spirit inspired and prepared me for Motherhood. As I approach the 14th week of my second pregnancy I am excited to rejoin Cara at pre-natal yoga and embark on a new birthing journey. Either at home or in a hospital my husband and I look to follow the same natural path with the birth of our second child.”
