I have been married to my wonderful husband for 15 years, have 8 amazing kids and have lived in the Spokane area for 9 years.
I have been interested in all things pregnancy, birth, and baby since I was a little girl. At one time, I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse, but now know it is my calling to support birthing families as a Doula. I love supporting mom and dad before, during, and after their birth. I love being their constant when things are calm and when things become crazy. It is my desire to help parents have an empowering and memorable experience and preserve their birth spaces as much as possible. I wish to see parents bring their child into the world in the way they choose, not the way they are “allowed.”
Philosophy
Your pregnancy and childbirth are events that you will remember for a lifetime. You will replay your baby’s birth story over and over again for the rest of your life. The birth doula is the modern day link in the tradition of women helping women through childbirth. She enhances the birth experience through information, empathy and physical assistance. A doula is an invaluable part of the birth team in any setting—hospital, home or birth center.
As a doula, I nurture and care for the expectant mother. I “mother the mother” while protecting the special bond between new parents. I believe that every woman has a maternal goddess inside of her that instinctively knows how she can best give birth. My job is not to speak for the pregnant woman, but to act as a a resource and give her the information she needs to make informed choices about her care. My goal is to help women in the community to view their birth as a powerful and fulfilling experience they can look back on with pride and awe.
Birth Doula Services
I offer one free, no obligation consultation to see if we are a fit. Should you decide that I am the Doula for you, you will receive the following:
Two to three prenatal visits to discuss your birth visions and decide how we will work together to achieve your goals.
I will provide information for you to make your own informed decisions.
Unlimited phone and email contact before, during and after birth.
Assistance in creating your birth plan, should you choose to have one.
I will be on call for you 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Continuous labor support at home, hospital and/or birth center.
Emotional, physical and informational support before, during and after birth.
Assistance with breastfeeding, if needed.
At least one postpartum visit within the first 10 days after birth.
A written birth story from my perspective.
Pictures if you choose to have them taken, placed on a CD to cherish.
Access to my lending library of books, handouts, DVD’s and birthing ball.
I do NOT perform any clinical tasks such as blood pressure, vaginal exams or fetal heart tones.
I will NOT make any decisions for you.
I will NOT speak to medical personnel on your behalf.
I will NOT interfere with dad/partner during labor or birth.
